In-Rack Sprinkler System
Specifically designed for the protection of racked storage areas, in-rack sprinkler systems are manufactured to continuously monitor for smoke and release water into a targeted area to minimize damage and downtime for the facility. Detectors are placed within close proximity to stored materials and equipment for the quickest possible response in the event of a fire. This is ideal for facilities that use large industrial shelving because it ensures that fires that begin in the middle of the rack can be extinguished before it consumes surrounding materials on other shelves or adjacent racks.
Although in-rack sprinkler systems cannot prevent fires, they can contain the fire to a specific area and extinguish it within a short period of time. The sprinklers are installed along a network of piping secured within the rack storage structure for adequate protection throughout the entire storage area. These types of fire suppression systems are used extensively in rack structures that are automated and use mechanized picking equipment controlled by a computer for loading and unloading material.
Why use an in-rack fire sprinkler system?
- Reduced installation costs - Traditional fire protection systems require building a custom system based on specific criteria. If the business needs to expand infrastructure, an engineer may need to redo the entire system. In-rack fire sprinkler systems are totally modular and can easily be installed by qualified personnel. If infrastructure expands, more units can be added.
- Reduced extinguishing agent requirements - Unlike other fire protection systems, which flood entire rooms with fire suppressant, in-rack fire sprinkler systems only need to discharge enough for one rack, drastically reducing the cost of recharging the system after a fire.
- Increased proximity to equipment - In-rack fire sprinkler systems put the detection as close to critical equipment as possible. This ensures the fastest possible response in the event of a fire.
